BTW, I had a look at the changelogs of sbp2 and ieee1394's nodemgr between
kernel 2.6.22 and 2.6.25 but did not spot anything that could explain this
regression. I suppose there are outside changes with subtle influences which
uncover a previously hidden problem with this device.
Sven, does "the harddisk turns itself off again" mean that the disk's motor
stops but goes back on again if an access follows later? Or does the disk
become unaccessible?

After "scsi_add_device failed", i.e. sbp2_probe failed, the oopsing sbp2_update
should never be called for this disk. I have no idea why it was called. Maybe
a glitch in driver core.
Sven or Dan, did the resolution to bug 384800 also remove this "BUG: unable to
handle kernel NULL pointer dereference" in sbp2_update?
