(continued)
Specifically, the "Global Options" tab has a selection that needs to change
_before_ an interface should be allowed to assign a static address. If the
option to use "Traditional Method with ifup" is selected, a static address can
be assigned with no attempt to connect to a repository and no problem.
I suggest that the network module should detect if "NetworkManager" is the
selected option, and prompt the user to switch to the "ifup" option if the user
attempts to manually set a static address to an network adapter. If the user
chooses not to switch, the network module should then alert the user that they
will see errors because of the choice they made. Or, don't give the user a
choice, simply notify the user that "ifup" mode will be selected since the user
is manually modifying the network adapter address.
Sorry about the two comments. I had no idea fat-fingering Alt-Space would
commit my comment.
