The problem starts with these log lines: Aug 6 03:10:07 dnsint1 named[21101]: socket.c:1996: unexpected error: Aug 6 03:10:07 dnsint1 named[21101]: internal_accept: fcntl() failed: Too many open files and continues after some minutes with Aug 6 03:13:41 dnsint1 kernel: possible SYN flooding on port 53. Sending cookies. Aug 6 03:13:41 dnsint1 kernel: klogd 1.4.1, ---------- state change ---------- After that time no queries are answered, though DDNS updates seem to be possible. The situation is solved by stopping and starting named. The problem occurs after some time, one machine ran 1.5 weeks, the next time 46 hours, and one againit stopped after about 3 days. On a second machine named stopped again after about 5 days. The machines having trouble are rather old machines, PIII 1.2GHz and 1.133GHz, both equipped with 512MB RAM.
