The problem is not once the system is up. It's _during_ the boot
process that the screen gets resized.
As the beginning of the bug report says, the bug is encountered with
other vga modes than the standard one. Try vga=scan and check the
various modes that your card allows.
In my tests, stty size was always correct, and that makes sense since
the values come from the kernel. LINES/COLUMNS given to boot scripts,
however, get stuck at the original text resolution with the 8x16 font.
