https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=394362 Summary: Grub can not be installed on a partition created with 256 inode size Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 3 Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Booting AssignedTo: jsrain@novell.com ReportedBy: tamas.sarga@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- If I accept the default 256 inode size at partitioning, then grub can't be installed onto the partition. The installation of openSUSE 11 b3 went well, without any error message, but the system isn't bootable. I have a link in MBR to that partition, so I'd like to install oS 11's grub to the root partition. When I rebooted, than the following error message displayed: root (hd0,1) Filesystem type is ext2fs partition type 0x83 configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst error 2: bad file or directory type I rebooted to installation dvd's recover option and tried to reinstall grub, it complained that partition didn't exist. It exists. I rebooted to 10.3 and tried to install grub by hand: setup --prefix=/mnt/hda2/boot/grub (hd0,1) ~ Checking if "/mnt/hda2/boot/grub/stage1" exists... no Error 2: Bad file or directory type The stage1 file is there. I started the installation over and changed inode size of my / partition to 128, and everything worked fine. So I think Grub can not be installed onto a partition created with 256 inode size. I'm don't sure how the problem could be resolved, maybe change the default inode size, or fix Grub, or just a warning message before partitioning. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
