Are you using NetworkManager? After you run /usr/lib/gnome-main-menu/main-menu,
did you right-click on the panel, add to panel, Main Menu and watch what error
you get in the terminal?
I get this;
mboman@mblxsrv01:~/Desktop> gdb /usr/lib/gnome-main-menu/main-menu
GNU gdb 6.8

This GDB was configured as "x86_64-suse-linux"...
(gdb) r
Starting program: /usr/lib/gnome-main-menu/main-menu
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
[New Thread 0x7f08e7ed8740 (LWP 22092)]
/usr/lib/gnome-main-menu/main-menu: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/gnome-main-menu/main-menu: undefined symbol: nm_ip4_config_get_address
Program exited with code 0177.
What's the output of;
rpm -qa NetworkManager*
I see a problem as well because the API for NetworkManager changed and the
"fix" isn't applied as the .spec file is broken with things like this;
<<<<<<< ./gnome-main-menu.spec.mine
> ./gnome-main-menu.spec.r25
This issue doesn't happen on i586 (yet) as NetworkManager have not yet been
rebuilt.
