https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=388948 Summary: (opensuse 11.0 beta 2) starting the graphical opensuse installation program fails on Thinkpad 770X Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: e._-_klm@t-online.de QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=214042) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=214042) Kernel Messages regarding IDE interface Overview Description: Starting the opensuse installation program fails on a Thinkpad 770x. When the installer should start, an error message appers which says: "Make sure that CD number 1 is in your drive" But the DVD is present in the drive. Steps to Reproduce: I inserted the DVD into the Thinkpad 770x, powered on, changed the language to German, changed the screen resolution to the maximum resolution available (1280 x 1024), source = DVD, used the standard kernel, did not include drivers with F6, used the option brokenmodules=ata_piix because this module detects a thinkpad system and refuses to load to prevent the serial eeprom in the thinkpad from being corrupted by the module (was already the case with opensuse 10.3) so I always use the module "piix". Then I hit installation and then esc to remove the splash screen. Loading piix is not reported to be ok (also the case when using pata_acpi, ata_generic or ide_pci_generic). After the output "Activating usb devices... ok" another output like "No....driver .....found" appears, but it disappears too quick to read. Then an error message appears that says: "Make sure that CD number 1 is in your drive" If I hit ok, the message reappears. If I hit back, linuxrc v3.1.21 appears I have attached the Kernel messages regarding IDE interface Actual Results: the graphical installer failed to load from DVD Expected Results: the graphical installer should load from DVD Computer: IBM Thinkpad 770X Pentium II 400Mhz Chipset:i440BX northbride & PIIX4 southbride (IDE controller) Additional Information: I have attached the Kernel messages regarding IDE inteface (typed manually, because copy & paste was not possible, so there might be mistakes) If you need more information / something is not clear, please let me know. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
