https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=388570 Summary: make kerneloops.org part of the default install Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Factory Platform: Other URL: http://kerneloops.org/download/kerneloops-0.11.tar.gz OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: security-team@suse.de ReportedBy: bphilips@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Hello- Kerneloops.org is a project to collect Kernel Oopses automatically. As far as I can tell Fedora ships with the software on by default and it has yielded some very helpful data on the problems that users are encountering and possibly not noticing. I am filing this bug to get the security team to look at the code and hopefully green light it for inclusion in openSuSE 11.0. Overview ========= The kerneloops daemon watches the kernel log by scanning /var/log/messages on startup and tailing syslog. If it finds an oops it submits it to the public DB available at kerneloops.org for analysis by the Kernel community. Submission is done via HTTP POST. On the desktop the user has the choice to either allow oopses to be sent once, forever or never via a dock app pop up (like the network manager pop ups). If the user isn't running X the config file can be used to setup submission (off by default). My main motivation is catching trivial oopses that a user may not notice and therefore not report (like broken webcam drivers). It is also nice to notify the user that they got an oops since suspend will break, etc. http://kerneloops.org/download/kerneloops-0.11.tar.gz Thanks, Brandon -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
