https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=387527 Summary: Installation offers a Media Check of Source CD/DVD but offers no check o HDD Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer Installation offers a Media Check of the Installation CD/DVD, however offers no check of any HDD. An error in an IDE physical drive or inbuilt controller can adversely effect the installation. In cases where there is a controller error that Install Program will not even get to a Format Drive situation. Errors in the controller of an IDE HDD which is on the same IDE cable as the CD/DVD can produce an abundance of Installation errors from a source DVD/CD. At the same time as the Media check is placed on the Install screen, surely we can make use of the Device drop down menu and check the HDD Media's integrity. I understand this would involve mounting an entire HDD before checking it, but I am sure this would be easily done and could be part of a Repair or Update Installation as a matter of course. For installation where a user wishes to use ALL HDD's for a Suse Linux O/S, we could offer a more intensive, but destructive integrity test. I am sure you could make good use of Novel Netware Compsurf utility here -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
