https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=386621 Summary: hostname -s in /etc/profile causes DNS timeouts Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: werner@novell.com ReportedBy: lnussel@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: mmeeks@novell.com Found By: --- /etc/profile contains a call to 'hostname -s'. That causes DNS timeouts on systems where the hostname is not resolvable such as laptops. Is that call actually necessary ie could it be removed or rewritten in a way that doesn't require DNS? See also bug 383336 for a lengthy discussion about unecessary dns timeouts. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
