https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=379502 Summary: zypper upgrade Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Factory Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: guru@unixtech.be QAContact: dmacvicar@novell.com Depends on: 247804 Found By: --- To upgrade specific packages, one currently has to use "zypper in package package ..." Smart has a slightly different operation named "upgrade", which performs an upgrade of specific packages (specified behind the "upgrade" command). The difference with "zypper in" resides in two things: - it supports wildcards, e.g. "smart upgrade amarok*" (see bug 247804 | https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=247804) - it only considers _installed_ packages for upgrade A few words to explain the latter: - if zypper had wildcard support, "zypper in amarok*" would install all matches, potentially mixing upgrades and installations of new packages, e.g. upgrade amarok and amarok-lang but also install amarok-libvisual (although amarok-libvisual wasn't installed) - "smart upgrade amarok*" only upgrades already installed packages that match the parameters, e.g. if amarok and amarok-lang are installed but not amarok-libvisual, "smart upgrade amarok*" will only upgrade amarok and amarok-lang, and not additionally install amarok-libvisual (as "zypper in amarok*" or "smart install amarok*" would do) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
