Rudi, I need your input on this issue. Lars didn't know what my question
was about. I explained it to him offline, and he asked me to get your
input on this.
We are talking about 2.5 MB per second of bandwidth, which is taken up
by delivering those patch-foo-xml files. (_After_ fixing the bug where
libzypp downloaded them more often than necessary.) This the cost of
your freedom to hand-edit those files, which you have since we no longer
redirect for these files. Since that is a substantial part of our
bandwidth, I would like to clarify if you actually need to have that
freedom or if you can live without. If it is needed, fine. But if you
could can avoid it, let's start redirecting again and save the
bandwidth.
Don't worry about regenerating the repository metadata once more, if
that's needed to get the job done, because that doesn't matter so much.
