the interface of the /usr/lib/sendmail is compatible. correct.
but if you send a mail with /usr/lib/sendmail for postfix it drops the new mail
into the postfix spooldir where it is picked up by some other process (running
from postfix master) and the mail is sent to the destination local or remote.
now if you have exim running but the binary symlink points to postfix your
mails wouldnt be delivered unless you start postfix aswell. i would think that
exim and sendmail are working the same way nowadays. so if we really want to
provide such feature in 11.0 we should make sure that the mta behind the
/usr/(sbin|lib)/sendmail binary is running aswell.
atm i dont see an easy way to gurantee that.
