* And it is not useful because it can turn into a problem for admins. For example, as Postfix is not installed in this mode, when you are going to install "cron" (that is also not installed), "cron" adds "Exim" (another MTA) as required package,
I guess cron Requires: smtp_daemon, and both Postfix and Exit Provide: it. This is technically correct, but as you pointed out not a good default. (IIRC postfix is the default/preferred MTA on openSUSE.) IMHO you should open a separate bugreport about this - I'm quite sure there are ways to prefer postfix. (For example Recommends: postfix in cron.spec.) Regarding the package list: There was a discussion about this in the mailinglist, and the result was a very minimalistic base pattern, which can be extended with other patterns. But as Benjamin said, the patterns are not set in stone - feel free to discuss them on the opensuse-factory mailinglist.
