https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=349529 Summary: GRUB error 22 on set up Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: linux@hillierconsultants.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Other I have decided to try out Open SUSE 10.3. I downloaded the iso file from the website. I burnt it to CD. I can run it in 'live' version. I ran the install program. It does the partitioning OK as far as I know. It then comes to configure the boot loader and the following message appears. GRUB 0.97 grub>setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0,5) (hd0,5) Error 22: No such partition This is very similar to bug 181651 which on reading I found no resolution. The disk system I have is a single SATA drive. The only IDE drive is the DVD/CD drive. SO my inclination is to suggest it is something to do SATA drives whether or not these are in a RAID (as reported in 181651). This is a hard error - I have tried it now 4 or 5 times and it is always the same (except more partitions are being added to the drive). As a SATA only machine it allocates sd0 to the device list for that drive. Why is it therefore trying to configure GRUB to hd0? I have had a look in /etc/grub.conf and this file is empty. It is not as if I have tried to change the device name - this is all done within YaST2. Quite simply this should not happen. Net result, I cannot install Open SUSE. Maybe I shall revert to Ubuntu - at least that works.
