https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=349144 Summary: zypper: checking for updates is slower than getting all updates and installing them Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- In GNOME the opensuse-updater-gnome-applet that uses zypper to check for updates takes much more time to complete than checking for updates, downloading ALL updates, and installing them via "rpm -vF" (like *.rpm). That cannot be! (Checking for newer updates and downloading those is done by my own Per script that gets the repomd files if more current ones exist, and then recursively gets (via parsing XML) the referenced files if they are newer or not present (and not obsoleted by a more recent patch). It also checks all the checksums after downloading. "rpm -vF" does the rest of checking and installing, and I'm sure there can be written a more efficient version if you just want to check if some newer updates are not yet installed locally) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
