I did the manual install but the results were the same.
After running the NVIDIA-*.run package, I tried the sax -r -m 0=nvidia command.
The result was it could not run and produced a log (I will attach).
I rebooted, and a blue COWS interface appeared (with a lot of garbage
characters).
The text said: "Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is
likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server
output to diagnose the problem?
It then showed the logs and conf file. It then ran sax2 for me and reset to
using the plain vanilla xorg drivers which still work (but no acceleration).
My card, the 8800GT is listed on the nVidia drivers download site, and it
points to both the standard Suse packages and to the binary download as sources
for the drivers.
