If I remove the plug, the drive shutdown sound is what I expect, i.e. it spins
down (strictly decreasing frequency), which is different to the sound
(monotonically decreasing frequency, maybe even increasing for a short period)
that sd_start_stop and 'hdparm -y /dev/sdc' make. This is embarrassing, as I
tend to conclude that the disk shutdown sound is normal, even though I have
some doubts. I have never heard this sound when I use other PCs (I have used
about a dozen desktop PCs with WD drives, one is in the next room running
windows xp; its shutdown sound is definitely different, a normal spin-down).
Also, doesn't the 200ms vs 5ms difference for STOP to complete indicate that
something is wrong?
