This makes me doubt whether we are chasing a USB problem at all.
The bit USB sets would be set independent of USB really raising the interrupt
or not. It just explains why USB would have raised the interrupt if it came
from USB.
The conclusion that it comes from USB is just based on USB being the only user
of that interface. The usual association with plugging in a device could be
just because this will wake the laptop from a sleep state. I'll make a patch
that resets EHCI's interrupt mask if a spurious interrupt happens. In the mean
time please test with the ehci module unloaded.
