I am afraid we have to put this one to rest. I installed Ubuntu 7.10 (because
some update trashed my KDE on OpenSuSE 10.3 and I wanted to play.
Bottom line is that Ubuntu reports the same access point MAC. I then booted
into Vista Ultimate (dual boot) and it reports the same. So all three operation
systems can't be wrong. I can also access the access point using Firefox, and
the same MAC is reported.
I took the access point down from the wall and opened it. Inside it has stamped
the same MAC as is printed on the box. And that is not the same as the one
reported by the software. So I have to believe that whatever was stamped into
the hardware is not what has been burned into it.
I sincerely apologize for any extra work this has caused.
