I've been doing a little bit of research, and I've tried to make a fresh
network install, booting the computer with the 'mini iso' cd. As in your first
post, the install program still cannot find the default repository.
I apologize for not quoting the full 'ftp.uninett.no' address, which should be
'ftp.uninett.no/linux/opensuse/distribution/10.3/repo/oss'. Although I didn't
complete the network install, it seemed to run smoothly using this address.
There may be a another problem, though, when you are asked about installing OSS
and NON-OSS updates. If you postpone the updates until after the install, the
default repo addresses are now correct, apparently, using Yast to activate
them.
Oddly enough, the default OSS repo adress used by Yast points to the rpm files
only, but 'http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/oss/' is
apparently equivalent to the 'ftp.uninett.no' address, and you should therefore
be able to install openSUSE from that address, too.
I do hope that this solves your problems!
And someone should correct the remaining silly bugs immediately!
