--- Comment #23 from Felix Miata 2007-10-08 23:23:32 MST ---
I got Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy beta installed on i815 today:
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.1-0
x11-common 1:7.2-5
X defaults using the same display to 100 DPI rather than 96, and Xft.dpi
defaults to 96.
DisplaySize works. Apparently, DisplaySize is also used to adjust Xft.dpi,
though imprecisely. Samples from 1600x1200:
X DPI Xft.dpi
84 96
90 96
100 96
104 96
108 108
120 120
132 120
133 120
144 143
145 145
168 168
At 1600x1200 with DisplaySize 281 211 in xorg.conf in both, compare this
excerpt from Xorg.0.log from 10.3:
(**) intel(0): Display dimensions: (281, 211) mm
(**) intel(0): DPI set to (185, 246)
To Kubuntu:
(**) intel(0): Display dimensions: (281, 211) mm
(**) intel(0): DPI set to (144, 144)
Both are running at 144, but Kubuntu does it automatically from DisplaySize,
while an xrandr call in Xsetup is required in 10.3.
At 1600x1200 with DisplaySize 337 253 in xorg.conf in both, compare this
excerpt from Xorg.0.log from 10.3:
(**) intel(0): Display dimensions: (337, 253) mm
(**) intel(0): DPI set to (154, 205)
To Kubuntu:
(**) intel(0): Display dimensions: (337, 253) mm
(**) intel(0): DPI set to (120, 120)
Both are running at 120, but Kubuntu does it automatically from DisplaySize,
while an xrandr call in Xsetup is required in 10.3.
