The patch pointed out in that fedora forum works perfectly in SuSE too.
I had a emachines N-10 laptop, totally mute even with any attempt of
configuration files, re-compilations etc.
Recompiled alsa 1.0.15 rc3 APPLYING FIRST THAT PATCH, in suse 10.3, and now it
works perfectly, high quality sound for speakers, headphones, mic.
The only additions that i have to that thread are:
- now alsa is rc3 so modify the patch command in the following way: type
patch alsa-driver-1.0.15rc3/alsa-kernel/pci/hda/patch_sigmatel.c <
patch_sigmatel.c.patch-1.0.15rc1-simple
- after rebooting you need to run alsamixer (as a user) to check if some
channel is muted and, as a root, alsaconf
Solved :)
I think it's gonna work for pretty much all the machines that had problems.
Many thanks to the developer of that patch
