https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=329168 Summary: kernel parameter vga=xxx leads to lockup on kernel init Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tabt@tabt.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other At least with 10.3 RC1 and Beta3 I have the problem that if I use e.g. vga=791 as a kernel parameter the kernel locks up on init, right after the boot loader loads kernel and initrd (regardless whether boot loader is GRUB or pxelinux). It does not seem to be connected to a specific graphics mode, all tested show the same effect. The system seems to get stuck, the keyboard Num-Lock and Caps-Lock LEDs are no longer responsive and the CPU fan slowly speeds up. A hard reset is the only way out. Using vga=ask then typing ENTER to get the list of (text) modes and e.g. choosing a 80x43 text mode works though. This problem did not occur with 10.2 or 10.1 (using same vga=791) The system consists of (relevant components at that stage): - AMD Athlon 64 X2 - Asus M2N-E SLI mainboard - MSI NVidia 8600GT graphics -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
