--- Comment #29 from Thomas Renninger 2007-09-27 03:19:08 MST ---
I don't think this has to do with irqs, but with DMA + C-states.
There must be no DMA transfers when entering C3/C4.
Entering C3/C4 is done in the ACPI processor module, therefore
processor.max_cstate=2 (or the much bigger hammer acpi=off works around the
problem). If ACPI_BITREG_BUS_MASTER_STATUS status bit is set by HW, processor
module knows there is DMA transfer and will not enter deeper C states. But the
algorithm when to enter deeper C-states should not have been modified much
since 10.2.
Srinivasa: Could you try to:
remove processor, thermal and fan entry from INITRD_MODULES in
/etc/sysconfig/kernel and invoke mkinitrd.
Then try to reboot without workaround parameters.
processor module (activation of C-states) is done around libata modules get
loaded in initrd. Maybe once the disk is settup correctly, the processor module
can be loaded at later time.
