Right.
There are several things about this menu.lst file that I do not understand
(and I hope I take the right angle to look at it), to summarize:
- there are two openSUSE 10.3 entries (with accompanying Failsafe
entries):
- one for kernel 2.6.22.5-10-bigsmp
- one for kernel 2.6.22.5-14-default
- the section for the newer kernel (2.6.22.5-14-default) is the default
section, but it does have "linux-2.6.22.5-14-default" rather than
"linux" as the "Original name" -- the section with "linux" should be
the latest one (and most of the time it should be the default section)
- the section for the newer kernel (2.6.22.5-14-default) does not have a
valid grub device, but rather "(/dev/hda5)"
- the kernel and initrd for the XEN kernel are referred to by their
symlinks, not the full name
Maybe you can help me with the following questions:
- Was the update to 10.3 done in the running system or after the system
was booted into the 10.3 installation system?
- Why would there be two sections for 10.3: one for the default kernel
and one for a bigsmp kernel?
I will try to find out from the logs, but any information here is much
appreciated.
