https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=307401 Summary: YaST Network Setup - Confusing messages Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: lenz@grimmer.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- I installed 10.3b2 on my Laptop, an IBM Thinkpad T42 with a built-in Ethernet interface (requiring the e1000 kernel module) and a built-in WLAN interface (which requires the ipw2200 kernel module and the ipw-firmware package, which is not included in the single KDE Installation CD). As I can't use the Ethernet I was hoping to be able to use the WLAN to perform the installation. However, the YaST2 Network Setup that is being displayed during the initial installation offers me both interfaces, asking me to configure one of them to perform the installation of additional packages via the network: "To configure a Network Card, select it from the list and click on the Next button" I therefore chose the WLAN interface and proceeded. However, there is no option to configure the WLAN options, all I get is an error popup "Warning: eth1 is disconnected. It needs to be connected for proper network configuration" I find this sequence and the messages displayed slightly confusing. The Network configuration dialogue does not indicate that it's not possible to configure the WLAN at all and why (firmware missing/WLAN installation not supported? I don't know). Please either make it more clear that the WLAN interface is not available due to the lack of the firmware or don't display it at all. Offering it for configuration and *then* coming up with a not very helpful message is not that user friendly. I hope you understand what I mean, please let me know if you need additional info.
