Yeah, the kernel parameter doesn't really solve the vanilla kernel example but
it makes things less subtle. I pinged all the ATA people I know in various
distros about the problem. I'm not sure what can come out of it tho. Well, at
least having some level of common knowledge about the problem would help
managing the confusion.
HPA-locked -> HPA-unlocked transition is relatively safe as we just end up
seeing more space at the end of the disk, so I guess defaulting to unlocking
HPA shouldn't cause too much problem for users as long as they stick with our
kernel. I'll commit a patch to do so.
I think it would be nice to note it in the release note. Who should I bug for
that?
