https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=307109 Summary: possibility to save space in setup/descr Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: kkaempf@novell.com ReportedBy: poeml@novell.com QAContact: kkaempf@novell.com Found By: --- In the 10.3 installation source, I see: 44M /srv/ftp/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse/setup/descr Those files seem to be uncompressed, which means that they waste space on the media, and cost a lot more bandwidth on the server when being downloaded than needed. The whole stuff could be compressed to 6-7 MB. One file seems particularly large: 19M /srv/ftp/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse/setup/descr/packages % gzip -c /srv/ftp/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/suse/setup/descr/packages | wc -c 2907423 It alone compresses to 2.8 MB. I suggest to gzip those files, similar to a repo-md repository. (Possibly even gzip --rsyncable. But no bzip2 pleae...;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
