This is the important part. KDE and GNOME know how to honor that. If there is
no Xfce counterpart, I wouldn't know how to do this. In particular, it requires
a mechanism that prompts for the root password or uses "sudo".

Maybe the Xfce maintainers know more about how to do this for Xfce.
