--- Comment #30 from Yang Bo 2007-08-22 02:56:29 MST ---
I state something wrong in comment #29.
In windows case, the GETPRINTERDATA RPC call returns error WERR_BADFILE. I have
no idea how XP can handle it correctly but failed with successful response.
try:
stop samba
remove log files
add "default devmode = no" in printers section
set "log level = 999" in global section
start samba
and then invoke preview from your windows client and post the log files
with the ntprinters.tdb under directory /var/lib/samba/
I think the probable reason would be that windows client messed the
relationship between ChangeId and printer. ie, Windows Lexmark T520 driver
treat \\FQDN\canes and \\shortname\canes as different printers, and that
explains why FQDN worked but short name failed. that is to say, FQDN has valid
configuration but shortname has invalid configuration.
On the samba side, \\FQDN\canes and the \\shortname\canes is actually one
printer, therefore, if windows try to get the configuration files of FQDN and
shortname, the configuration should be the same and worked for both case.
Window s probably get the configuration for FQDN and didn't get configuration
for short name. probably, ChangeId returned, on one location windows think that
it has got the configuration(because changeid is the same) which treat FQDN and
short name as the same printer, but on another location, it treats FQDN and
short name as different printers and then shortname has no valid configuration.
Anyway, try the above configuration, force windows driver to generate devmode
locally instead of using samba devmode and check if it works.
set as needinfo again.
