Patch to allow to mount dirty volumes read-only with -oro (without force)
As far as I understood Szaka in private mail, it's no problem to mount dirty
volumes read-only when the mount option ro is used (without force), and I
believe that the attached patch does what he had in mind.
On failing the mount when read-write-mode is not desirable for the fs state:
Well, I do not specify "rw" as an mount option, and mount fails nonetheless.
It would be easy to implement force the current behaviour when "rw" is
specified.
I think that I am at about 50% progress have an implementation for such
fallback, the question is whether Szaka would accept it upstream if it comes
with an option like --enable-readonly-mount-fallback option for configure.ac
I think that it would be a pity to have forks (each patch that is not upstream
is IMHO a fork)
