I've got the same problem:
OpenSuSE 10.3 (kernel version 2.6.22.1) installer cannot detect any hard drive
installed on my computer after spending quite a long time loading drivers for
controllers.
[Dell Latitude D631]
[AMD 64 X2 TL-56]
[AMD Xpress 1270 chipset]
[Toshiba SATA 60G HD]
I also tried to upgrade from a working kernel (SuSE 10, kernel version 2.6.16)
to 2.6.22. After my system rebooted, again, after a long time loading the
drivers, the hard drive cannot be found. The error message shows:
resume device /dev/sda5 not found (ignoring)
waiting for device /dev/sda6 to appear:..not found
Is it because the southbirdge? However, the new kernel is supposed to support
the southbridge SB600. And the new kernel works fine w/ Intel platforms,
including the Bearlake.
I wonder if a driver is needed when installing the new kernel 2.6.22?
