https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=300939 Summary: SATA ODD error messages on AMD/ATI SB600/SB700 Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: shane.huang@amd.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: joachim.deguara@gmail.com, shane.huang@amd.com Found By: --- There is one important SB600/SB700 patch which has NOT been applied to openSUSE10.2. Without this patch there will be many SATA ODD error messages on screens when linux boot. This patch has been accepted by kernel.org for more than half an year, Please refer to this git link for more information: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=... Lack of this patch may also leading to Linux installation failure(e.g. RHEL4.5 installation failure) And I guess "maybe" this is the cause that openSUSE10.3 Alpha7 and Beta1 can NOT be installed on SB700(just guess, need further confirmation) You may need to do some small backport to this patch: 1. Modify AHCI_FLAG_IGN_SERR_INTERNAL = (1 << 27), into AHCI_FLAG_IGN_SERR_INTERNAL = (1 << 28), because 27 has been occupied in openSUSE10.2 2. Modify board_ahci into board_ahci_sb600 to all the ATI related AHCI device. e.g. === Before backport ==== { PCI_VDEVICE(ATI, 0x4380), board_ahci }, { PCI_VENDOR_ID_ATI, 0x4390, PCI_ANY_ID, PCI_ANY_ID, 0, 0, board_sb600 }, === After backport ===== { PCI_VDEVICE(ATI, 0x4380), board_ahci_sb600 }, { PCI_VENDOR_ID_ATI, 0x4390, PCI_ANY_ID, PCI_ANY_ID, 0, 0, board_ahci_sb600 }, -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
