I am not sure we should fix it as it was earlier, as hard coded settings
manager have never managed to keep up with compiz, every change in
compiz-core/plugins system will require some work in the settings tool to keep
is updated.
This is what we could do instead:
1. Leave Xgl switch as it is.
2. Put a button that launches ccsm for setting compiz and plugins.
3. Offer AIGLX/NVIDIA switch if user prefers those.
I have hacked up(very ugly) the gnome-xgl-settings and removed everything
except 1 and 2. install compiz-git-all from home:cyberorg repo to test.
As I hardly know any programming, I have just removed some references to
settings part to get it working, it would need to be done professionally as it
was earlier, just catering above three points.
Benefit of ccsm is that it uses plugin metadata to generate the GUI so it would
always be up to date and offer settings for even newest of plugins without
adding extra code.
So what do you guys think?
