--- Comment #42 from Rainer Klier 2007-07-20 05:40:01 MST ---
this is my /etc/nsswitch.conf:
passwd: compat
group: compat
hosts: files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns
networks: files dns
services: files
protocols: files
rpc: files
ethers: files
netmasks: files
netgroup: files nis
publickey: files
bootparams: files
automount: files nis
aliases: files
i never change that file.
after reading this bug-report i tried the following:
because under 10.2 there is no special nss-mdns-32-bit package, but there are
two mutually-excluding nss-mdns packages for 32bit and 64bit (both used from
the GNOME:STABLE repo from repo-server), i first installed the 32bit version.
then i copied the files /lib/libnss_mdns* to save place /tmp/libnss_mdns32Bit.
then i installed the 64bit version of nss-mdns.
then i copied back the files from /tmp/libnss_mdns32Bit to /lib.
so after this i had BOTH versions of nss-mdns installed.
64bit versions under /lib64 and 32bit versions under /lib.
after this everything works again.
so in fact i "virtually" installed the non-existent nss-mdns-32bit package.
and because the solution/workaround works the same way, i think this bug has
really the same cause.
but why did this not happen before latest update?
the question is:
is this workaround a better or worse solution than editing the file
/etc/nsswitch.conf?
should i change the /etc/nsswitch.conf?
another thing is, that i don't have installed mDNSResponder.
i have installed mDNSResponder-lib and mDNSResponder-lib-32bit, but not
mDNSResponder.
should i remove the package nss-mdns and install mDNSResponder instead?
whould this be a better solution than having nss-mdns-32bit-libs installed?
and whould opening a bug be succesfull, because i got this bug only because of
updating gnome and firefox with repos from repo-server, and i think these
update-versions are not supported....
