https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=287047 Summary: LVM volumes not created on first restart Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: giosif@ase.ro QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Hello, During the installation of openSUSE 10.3 Alpha 5, after installing the packages and creating the initrd (and also installing the bootloader, if selected to be installed), the machine has to be rebooted. After the reboot, the setup was supposed to continue. However, if using LVM for the root partition, the LVM volumes are not detected during the reboot and so, the setup process cannot continue (the "waiting for /dev/root to become available" process times out and you are presented with the shell prompt). The idea is that the devices corresponding to the LVM logical volumes are not created in /dev. I ran "vgscan --mknodes", which detected the LVM volume group, but still no devices were created in /dev. I don't have much experience with SUSE, but my guess is that either udev or vgscan has a problem and that is the reason why the devices are not created.
