https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=287039 Summary: Either machine hangs or Linuxrd crashes Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rsantos@ruisantos.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Currently I use openSUSE 10.2 with openSUSE's provided kernel 2.6.21.200 from the general repository. My root filesystem is in ext3 and I would like to change it xfs. In order to do so I have o reboot with some kind of live cd, tar my root partition, use mkfs.xfs to reformat it and, untar the previous backup. In order to do that, I need, at least a 2.6.21 kernel, so it can correctly detect my 2 SATA driver on my Motherboard. In order to so I tried using openSUSE 10.3 alpha4 and openSUSE 10.3 alpha5. Then the problems arose. I Boot using the 'Recovery System' option. A few times, the system doesn't even boot, showing the message 'Linuxrc crashed :(' right after the 'Loading Basic Drivers message'. But, on the times that error doesn't occur, the remaining boot just goes smoothly. When I try to tar the files to another partition, the machine hangs ( really hangs ) after a few minutes, making the task impossible. A few notes: Command line used: cd /; tar --preserve -X tmp/notar -zcvf media/safe/root.tar.gz * Hardware: Asus P4P800 Deluxe with two 320GB SATA drives. Partitioning: Boot partition: 128MB RAID1 SWAP: 2x 1GB partitions Root partition: 506GB RAID0 Safe partition: 40GB RAID1 Tests: I use openSUSE10.2 without a problem I tried that same command with openSUSE10.2 using 2.6.21.200 kernel, and it worked. I tried openSUSE10.2 with a self compiled 2.6.22.rc4.git3 kernel, with is openSUSE's 10.3 alpha5 kernel and it worked. I tried running that command from recovery system in init1 and it also didn't work. I tried booting through the installation option on GRUB but the results are the same. I'd like to help on this by performing any necessary test. After all, I'd like to install openSUSE10.3 when it gets released so, please let me know if I can help you in any kind. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
