https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=284825 Summary: X server terribly slow to start Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 4plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: coolo@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: mfabian@novell.com, sndirsch@novell.com I noticed rckdm start takes long and in my self appointed role as kdm startup time guard I compiled a kdm from source to instrument it. Just to find out kdm has problems starting the X server. second 3-8 of a rckdm start look like this in strace: 13915 1181926503.872934 socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 9 13915 1181926503.873240 connect(9, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.font-unix/fs7100"}, 24) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 13915 1181926503.873370 nanosleep({1, 0}, {1, 0}) = 0 ... 13915 1181926507.894132 nanosleep({1, 0}, {1, 0}) = 0 .. 13915 1181926508.900154 connect(9, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.font-unix/fs7100"}, 24) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 13915 1181926508.900256 close(9) = 0 .. 13915 1181926508.900399 write(2, "Could not init font path element"..., 65) = 65 13915 1181926508.900631 open("/usr/share/fonts/misc/6x13-ISO8859-1.pcf.gz", O_RDONLY) = 9 So there is a 5 seconds timeout for a non-existant font server. And as I for sure did not touch xorg.conf, it must be our default. While xfs is installed, it is turned off (again: defaults). I'm not sure what's the reason we have xfs installed by default, but there has to be more clever logic - or no timeout. No xfs -> no font server. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
