https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=278518 Summary: nvidia driver installation succeeds but X won't start Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: andre@terpstra.nu QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com I have a laptop with an nVidia GeForce 6150 Go chip. The standard OpenSuse 10.2 installation worked like a charm. However the standard "nv" driver does not offer 3D support AFAIK. So I installed the nvidia closed-source driver (96.31 I think) using the standard Yast2 method and precisely carried out the steps in the How-to. However, after restarting the system X won't start anymore. The error is the well-known error message "no usable screens found". The problem may however be different because the nvidia module fails to get inserted according to the system log. Could it be a framebuffer problem? I know that the kernel nvidiafb module and the nvidia driver are incompatible but do not know whether OpenSuse uses vesafb or nvidiafb. I also have another linux distro on this same laptop (Gentoo) and that one works perfectly using the nvidia 97.55 drivers. P.S. This is an X86_64 AMD installation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
