https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=273115 Summary: Default Kernel contains too many extinct or otherwise useless components Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3plus Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: casualprogrammer@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de See also Bug 269774 for same issue with packages Examples are ( by no means exhaustive ): Dell Firmware Amateur Radio Support Parallel Port support IrDA Support Old CD Rom drivers ISDN Subsystem Telephony Support to name just a few. Most of this can probably moved out of the Kernel and offered as modules, or else there could be a "Legacy Kernel" for use with old systems. I have installed openSuSE 10.3 on a Sony Vaio PCG-SRX51P with 686 CPU 0.9 MHZ, 80GB hard disk and 256MB memory and it is REALLY slow compared to Windows XP on the same machine. There my be other issues as well, but I think cleaning out all the obsolete stuff from the Kernel and the packaging would make a big difference. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
