https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=256276 Summary: Kernel framebuffer does no longer support higher resolutions than 800x600 Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 2 Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: one_way@online.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Several weeks ago I noticed that my factory tree installation would no longer start with the graphical bootsplash, but complained that an illegal VGA mode number was given. However, I up to then had booted with "vga=0x31a", which means 1280x1024@64k, without the slightest problem. This is still the case as of kernel-2.6.20.2-4. As a graphical bootsplash is an essential part of the openSUSE experience (note: :-) ), I today looked a bit into it and "hwinfo" gave me the enlightening hint that the framebuffer device would - for no obvious reasons - only support 800x600@64k - more colors would even further reduce the available resolution. And voila, with a "vga=0x314" the framebuffer worked again, albeit with a less-than-perfect resolution. The hardware is a 64bit AMD64 machine with a NVidia GeForce 4 AGP card. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
