I simulated your situation by yanking out the dvd rom right after the kernel is fully loaded and, you're right, there is no easy way to obtain the kernel log. Kernel panics and the console just locks up. The only thing that worked was serial console. You have a mobile chipset, so it's a bit unlikely but does your machine happen to have a serial port? If so and you have another machine with a serial port handy. 1. Get a crossed serial cable (null modem cable) and connect the two computers. 2. Fire up minicom or any other serial terminal program on the other machine and configure it as 15200 8N1. 3. Specify 'console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0' as Boot Option. You should be able to capture all the messages in the other computer. If your computer doesn't have a serial port, let me know. We'll figure out something.
