https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=250562 Summary: syslog-ng destination program yields defunct processes Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tabt@tabt.de QAContact: qa@suse.de On multiple opensuse 10.2 systems I can not use programs in syslog-ng to act on events any more. The programs which are started when syslog starts just result in dead processes. The funny thing is: on one VMware installation it works, but on three computers it doesn't, so you might have to test it on different systems. On two 10.0 and one 10.1 installations the following test case works without problems. One of the 10.0 systems is a ThinkPad A30p which has the very same problem in the 10.2 installation. Test case: ---------- - add this to your /etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf: filter test_test { match("test"); }; destination test { program("/bin/cat >>/tmp/test.log"); }; log { source(src); filter(test_test); destination(test); }; - restart syslog-ng (rcsyslog restart) - check processes with "ps gaux" or "pstree -p" there should be a cat as child of syslog-ng or, if the problem occurs on your system, too, a <defunct> process... - if the "cat"-process exists, a "logger test" should create the file /tmp/test.log -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
