https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=248118 Summary: Special characters in man pages are not displayed decoded correctly Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: webclark@rochester.rr.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Special characters embedded in man pages are not displayed correctly. For example, "man smb.conf" results in incorrect text: Any line beginning with a semicolon (“;”) or a hash (“#”) character is ignored, as are lines containing only whitespace. Any line ending in a “#8221; is continued on the next line in the customary UNIX fashion. Error messages are generated such as: Manual page smb.conf(5) line 1/usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:2976: warning: numeric expression expected (got `a') /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:3010: warning: numeric expression expected (got `m') /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:3010: warning [p 43, 10.3i]: cannot adjust line These show up on the first page, but also occur throughout the document. lines 1-53 /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:2976: warning: numeric expression expected (got `a') /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:3010: warning: numeric expression expected (got `m') /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:3781: warning: numeric expression expected (got `m') /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:3781: normal or special character expected (got a space) /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4147: cannot use a space as a starting delimiter /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4153: a space character is not allowed in an escape name /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4156: a space character is not allowed in an escape name /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4159: a space character is not allowed in an escape name /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4159: a space character is not allowed in an escape name /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4159: a space character is not allowed in an escape name /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4886: warning: numeric expression expected (got `S') /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4887: missing delimiter (got a space) /usr/share/man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz:4887: warning: numeric expression expected (got `A') I believe I have also seen this in stuff displayed by the KDE help center, but cannot seem to find an example so I expect that this is not actionable. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
