I've had the same problems. I can tell you this:

1. It doesn't happen on all computers. I didn't try more than once so I can't
say for sure if it always happens on the same computer.

2. I'm burning with k3b which certainly doesn't add UDF info to the disk when I
use the iso image. Still, loading catalogs will fail on one of my computers if
the UDF driver is not loaded.

My guess is that there is a bug hiding somewhere which gets triggered under
certain circumstances and loading the UDF driver somehow fixes it. If no one
else can find a stable test system where installing will always fail, I can
have a look here. But my machine is a server, so I'm reluctant.

When we have a test machine, it would be great to have a version of Yast which
shows more debug output while loading the catalogs so we can see if it just
can't see them or if the DVD seems to be faulty (ie. broken DVD or Joilet
