I have the exact same problem using OpenSuse 10.2, Gnome and Networkmanager.
After working a while with the wireless nework it just loses connection and one
is not able to reconnect. Need to reboot my laptop to get it working again.
rcnetwork restart is not sufficient to get the wireless network running again.

What I found out is that when the ammount of traffic over the wireless network
seems high then the connection gets dropped. For example just doing some web
browsing is not problem. But when syncing folders with iFolder with larger
files then the connection gets dropped. Also this week when I tried my VMWare
client on my laptop to connect to my VMWare server to get to my virtual
machines, the wireless connection is then dropped almost instantly when also
having and RDP connection with my terminal server.
