https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227523 Summary: Suboptimal selection of installation sources in New Zealand Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mludvig@logix.net.nz QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Installing OpenSUSE 10.2 in New Zealand: the automatic installation source selection that is run during installation often selects inappropriate sources, e.g. in Japan or Indonesia. As all traffic to/from NZ goes either via Australia or via USA the proposed sources should be in AU (there are many, mirror.pacific.net.au is my favorite) or as a fallback in the US. You living in EU/US won't notice any delay when accessing a source not exactly round the corner. Unfortunately in NZ intl connectivity is generally poor and congested, where the fastest (but still fairly crappy) is to AU. It leads to 3 or 4 times faster startup of online_update & friends. Please give us those mirrors by preference ;-) BTW The super ideal solution to this problem would be having a local ftp.novell.co.nz mirror - who else than Novell should be providing this service afterall?? But I have no idea who to bug for it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
