https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=226334 Summary: We need a FAST file/directory tool to compete with our competition all we need is the GUI for it. "locate" Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME - Platform AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome-platform@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@tpg.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: kde-maintainers@suse.de Current tools for locating files and folders are painfully slow and buggy. To compete with the opposition we need a very fast file/directory search. It would we very helpful to write a GUI using "locate". Whilst you may dismiss this suggestion to say we already have file managers that can search for files. They are slow and Linux having such a vast directory structure by nature in the Distro even with hardware power they are painfully slow. We can perhaps go 2 ways. Simply have a separate default item "Locate" being a GUI of the application OR change the find files in both Konqueror and Beagle to utilise "locate" Personally I think the first is the simplest, neatest and we can do some really neat stuff with the application locate - it just needs a GUI: -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
