https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=226333 Summary: Software Management Installation of new software - partially fails in KDE desktop Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@tpg.com.au QAContact: kde-maintainers@suse.de CC: jsrain@novell.com, siegfried.olschner@novell.com Installation of additional GUI software has major issues. There is an inordinate amount of applications installed during installation that do not create a menu item. This is understood as many do not have a GUI interface. However IF Mr and Mrs Jones and any other USER elects to go into software management and installs a Program with a GUI and it does not appear on the menu/Desktop the user will assume it is not installed. Sure I know I can locate the application and place it on the desktop – however to the USER – NOT Linux or PC professional who uses their PC far differently. In this day a USER expects if they install software they can get at this. Searching the directory structure for the executable file and placing it onto the desktop is NOT winning you market place. In the example I used software management to install Kdar, Konserve, acroread. Only Kdar ended up on the menu. I have just located acroread and its execution just now a click Can we please have a dialogue box with a quick yet or no install in menu and or Desktop. This is a BUG as the installed software is not accessible to the user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
